Registered Nurse | Aged Care | Katherine, NT

Are you an experienced Registered Nurse looking for something a little different from a large metropolitan aged care facility?

We’re partnering with a small Aboriginal aged care service in Katherine, Northern Territory, looking for Registered Nurses to join their team on a permanent basis.

This is a smaller facility where the RN plays an important role on the floor, working closely with care staff and having the opportunity to genuinely get to know the residents they support.

The position has been difficult to fill locally and has been covered through the Rural LAP program, with the organisation now focused on finding the right nurses to join permanently.

The Facility

Based in Katherine, the home is a 20-bed Aboriginal aged care facility, currently supporting approximately 15 residents while preparing for a significant refurbishment.

The resident cohort is predominantly low to medium care, with the service focused on providing culturally appropriate care to Aboriginal residents.

This isn’t a huge nursing home where you’re one RN among many. You’ll be an important clinical presence within a smaller team, supporting care staff and helping residents receive as much appropriate care as possible within their own community.

The Role

You’ll work as the Registered Nurse and clinical lead on shift, with responsibilities including:

  • Clinical assessment and monitoring of residents
  • Medication management
  • Identifying and responding to deterioration
  • Escalating clinical concerns appropriately
  • Supporting and directing PCAs on shift
  • Care planning and clinical documentation
  • Working with GPs and virtual nursing support
  • Providing clinically sound, person-centred care
  • Acting as the go-to clinical person on the floor

The roster consists of AM and PM shifts with no scheduled night shifts. Overnight support is provided through care staff and a virtual nursing service, with the RN participating in an on-call arrangement.

Who We’re Looking For

You don’t need 10+ years of experience, but this probably isn’t the right first role for a brand-new graduate.

Ideally, you’ll have:

  • Current unrestricted AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse
  • Around 1-2+ years’ nursing experience
  • Strong clinical assessment skills
  • Confidence recognising deterioration and escalating appropriately
  • The ability to work independently and make sound clinical decisions
  • Good communication and leadership skills when supporting care staff
  • An understanding of culturally safe and respectful care
  • Genuine interest in living and working within a regional Aboriginal community
  • Australian Working Rights

Most importantly, we’re looking for someone clinically confident enough to work within a smaller regional environment while knowing when to ask for support.

Why Consider Katherine?

For the right nurse, this is an opportunity to step away from a large metro environment and become an important part of a smaller organisation and community.

You’ll have the opportunity to build genuine relationships with residents, work closely with the wider care team and have a meaningful impact on how care is delivered.

Compliance Requirements

Successful applicants will need to meet the organisation’s pre-employment requirements, including:

  • AHPRA registration
  • Working with Children Clearance
  • NDIS Worker Screening
  • Police Check
  • Current First Aid certification
